In this spot on 17th July 1955 a large mine which had been placed for the Messines Ridge attack in 1917 (which had laid dormant for 38 years) was struck by lightning in a thunderstorm and detonated, the only casualty being a cow. pic.twitter.com/TWB2yZrHYL
